Monoethylene glycol (MEG) is an organic compound with the formula HOCH2CH2OH. It is a colorless, odorless, and slightly viscous liquid that is used as a raw material in the manufacture of polyester fibers and for antifreeze formulations. MEG is also used in other applications such as chemical intermediates, solvents, and plasticizers. MEG is produced from ethylene (ethene), via the intermediate ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide reacts with water to produce MEG.
